Gun Hill Signal Station, located in the parish of St. George, provides a magnificent and captivating view of the entire island. It is the
finest of a series of signal stations built in 1818. These stations sighted ships approaching Barbados and signaled to each other in warning of the approaching vessel. The signal station was restored and landscaped by the Barbados National Trust and now houses a collection of military memorabilia. There is also a statue of a lion which was carved out of a single piece of rock in 1868 by an officer at the signal station.

The peak rises to over 3,000 feet, and it is quite often surrounded by cloud at the very top, even in the middle of the day. The steepest parts of the mountain are covered in rain forest, and at the highest altitudes, cloud forest. It is strongly recommended that hikers do not attempt this climb unless accompanied by a guide.
NEVISIAN HERITAGE VILLAGE
The Nevisian Heritage Village administered by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, largely depicts the evolution of Nevisian social history through housing. The display includes the blacksmith’s shop, rum shop, and the shoe-maker’s shop, along with dwelling houses. To complete these traditional village settings
are “backyard” gardens, beautiful flower gardens and various species of indigenous plants and shrubs.
